Family Agreement

Family Agreement

Every so often, we ask every MJS family to take a fresh look at our Studio Policies and sign an updated agreement. As the studio grows, our policies grow too — this keeps everyone on the same page, with no surprises.

Studio Policies

Everything that keeps MJS running smoothly — nothing hidden, nothing sneaky. Jump to a section, or browse away.

Our mission is a supportive, fun, and inspiring studio where every student thrives — with lessons tailored to each student’s unique path. These policies help us deliver that, while respecting everyone’s time and commitment.

📌 Good to know
  • Payment of tuition acknowledges receipt of these policies and also signifies acceptance and agreement to them.
  • You’ll always find a link to this page in MakeMusic Studio, on the back of your student’s lesson journal, in our onboarding emails, and in our email signature.
🗓️ Studio Schedule

Lessons are held weekly, year-round unless otherwise specified on the studio calendar posted below.

Because we serve students from many different school systems, adults of all ages, home-schooled families, etc, we do not align our studio calendar with FWISD or any other local school calendar.

Studio hours: Monday–Thursday 2pm–8pm & Saturday 10am–3pm.

🎟️Our 3 Enrollment Options
Drop-Ins – least commitment
  • Drop-In lessons are our a-la-carte style enrollment option, a lesson-by-lesson commitment that is NOT subject to automatic renewal. Lesson reservations are made at booking + payment.
  • Drop-in students have the option to reschedule up to 3 hours prior to the set lesson time. This request should be made via email to musicjunkiestudios@gmail.com .
  • Missing the 3 hour window will be considered a missed lesson. Missed drop-in lessons do not qualify for a make-up lesson, credit, or refund.

Monthly Tuition – our most popular enrollment method
  • What it is: Appointment-based, not attendance-based — a month-to-month spot that auto-renews on the 1st, offered at a discounted rate for the ongoing commitment.
  • 48-lesson guarantee: Monthly Tuition students get 48 lesson opportunities a year. Some months have a 5th lesson day (like a 5th Monday) and others include holiday closures — but your tuition stays the same every month. You’re never charged extra for a 5th-lesson month, and closures never cost you lessons; it balances out to 48 across the year.
  • Discontinuing: Give written notice (email or text is fine) at least two hours before closing on the last open office day of the month to avoid the next month’s charge. Holiday closures and hours are listed in the Studio Schedule above.
  • Refunds: None for discontinuation mid-term. With prior arrangement, we’ll honor discounted tuition through a partial month.
  • Included: Tuition covers studio materials like tote bags and practice planners. Individual lesson books are purchased separately.

12-Month Membership – the greatest value

MJS Members secure 12 entire months of One-on-One Music Lessons at our most discounted rates. We MJS Membership is now open to every student, year-round!

  • Members SAVE on all Music Junkie Merch, lesson books, and select programs!
  • MJS Members get first priority on scheduling, events, and relevant performances (some sell out!)

Every student must have their own independent membership I.E. two half-hour students must have two half-hour memberships and can not share one full-hour membership. MJS Membership spots are secured at payment.

🎵1-on-1 Lesson Policies
Instrument Requirement
  • All MJS students are required to own or to have open access to a suitable instrument for regular practice.
Attendance
  • We kindly request that you inform us as soon as possible if you are unable to attend a scheduled lesson.
  • Make-up lessons for student absences are not included as a feature of tuition and are not guaranteed. For a detailed explanation of our make-up opportunities, please scroll down to the MJS Difference section.
  • There are no refunds or account credits for missed lessons.
Billing & Late Payments
  • Monthly Tuition students: consistent or repeated failure to maintain an active card on file for payment will serve as consent to remove the student from our Monthly Tuition program and charge the current Drop-In rate. All late payments are subject to a $20 late fee.
Card on File & Studio Purchases
  • By enrolling, you authorize Music Junkie Studios to charge your card on file for lessons, subscriptions, and lesson materials chosen by your student’s teacher, such as sheet music and method books.
  • Up to $15 per item: we’ll purchase it and charge your card on file — no prior approval needed.
  • Over $15: we’ll contact you for approval before purchasing.
  • This also covers in-studio items your student takes, such as $1 water bottles.
✨The MJS Difference
MJS Performances
The Mission
  • Our mission at MJS is to create an atmosphere where students learn to love music more, are encouraged to take risks, and express themselves in the safest environment possible. Every policy at our studio was created with the greater student experience in mind and heart.
The MJS Way
  • We pride ourselves in offering, on average, 4 performance opportunities every year, well above the average (1 per year) of most studios. Each performance presents a unique vibe, environment, time constraint, etc. We aim to provide a diverse range of environments, including indoor, outdoor, public, private, intimate, grand, free, and some with associated costs. This approach ensures that we offer every opportunity for growth while being sensitive to the needs and preferences of all student families and their desired audience members.
  • We’re continually working hard to identify the expressed range of needs within our studio community, aiming to offer at least one performance per year that meets each identified need. However, please understand that it is not possible to perfectly accommodate all performances with the needs and preferences of every student family.
We’re Imperfect Lifelong Learners
  • We encourage open communication and welcome positive and constructive criticism regarding performance opportunities. If you have suggestions or feedback, please feel free to start a conversation by emailing us at musicjunkiestudios@gmail.com. Kristi will be in touch to discuss your thoughts and ideas.
Take It or Leave It – No Hard Feelings 🙂
  • If a particular venue or time frame isn’t convenient for your family, it’s completely acceptable to skip and wait for the next opportunity. In fact, sign up numbers help us to learn what our clients love and what they don’t! Our genuine hope is that every student family feels at ease participating in MJS events. We encourage each family to select events that align best with their needs and sign up for those. While we would love to have everyone at every performance, as a mom-owned and operated studio, we understand that not everything can be suitable for everyone.
Make-Up Lessons

Life happens. Here’s what to do when a lesson can’t go as planned — and how our make-up courtesy works.

🎧
Can’t come in person?

Keep your lesson — switch it online. Same day, same time, same teacher. Perfect when a student is home sick but well enough to learn, or traveling. Just tell the front desk at least an hour ahead. This isn’t a make-up — nothing is missed.

🎵
Missed a lesson? (Monthly & Members)

Because tuition is reservation-based, not attendance-based, we don’t reschedule or schedule make-up lessons for student absences.

As a courtesy (not a guarantee or paid feature), we host Free Lesson Days a few times a year, where Monthly Tuition students and 12-Month Members can book an extra 1-on-1 with their assigned instructor for free.

🎟️
Did we have to cancel?

If an instructor has to cancel, you’ll receive a free lesson voucher, valid through the end of the calendar year.

Drop-In students: reschedule up to 3 hours before your lesson. Miss that window and the lesson can’t be made up.

Plan TypeMake-Up EligibilityHow It WorksExpiration

Make-ups aren’t available for group activities. This is a free courtesy from MJS staff and a bonus feature — terms may change without notice. Full details are in the Student Handbook.

💻Online Lessons

Online lessons are also a great backup plan. If a student is home sick but feeling well enough to learn — or traveling, or just can’t make it in person — we can move the lesson online: same day, same time, same teacher.

Technical Requirements
  • Stable Internet Connection: A reliable internet connection is required for online lessons. We recommend at least 10 Mbps for both download and upload speeds.
  • Device Compatibility: Lessons are best conducted on a tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. Mobile phones can be used but are not ideal for effective learning.
  • Video & Audio Setup: A working webcam and microphone are required for optimal lesson quality. Headphones are recommended to reduce background noise and improve audio clarity.
Setup Guidelines
  • Quiet Environment: Ensure the student has a quiet, dedicated space free of distractions during the lesson. A well-lit area is also important so the instructor can see the student clearly.
  • Camera Positioning: The camera should be set up so the instructor can see both the student and their instrument clearly. Ideally, position the camera at a slight angle to capture the student’s posture and hand positions.
  • Materials Ready: Students should have all required lesson materials (instruments, sheet music, etc.) ready before the lesson begins to ensure productive use of time.
Communication Expectations
  • Prompt Communication: If technical issues arise during a lesson, please communicate them immediately so we can address the problem or reschedule if needed. You can reach us via MakeMusic Studio messaging, texting/calling our studio number (682) 499-5732, or email.
  • Attendance for Online Lessons: Virtual lessons are held at the same day and time as in-person lessons unless otherwise arranged. It’s essential that students are logged in and ready a few minutes before the start time to ensure the lesson begins promptly.
🎯Audition Prep

How to enroll in Audition Prep, plus the terms you’re agreeing to.

Ways to enroll
  • Audition Prep Pack — a set of 16 half-hour sessions you book on your own schedule. Learn more about the Pack (and its pricing) on the Audition Prep page.
  • Drop-Ins or Monthly Tuition — book sessions one at a time, or reserve a weekly spot. See current Drop-In and Monthly pricing on our sign-up page.
The Agreement
  • Audition Prep tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • The Audition Prep Pack is redeemable for Audition Prep sessions only — not regular lessons.
  • We prepare every student thoroughly and give each audition our absolute best — but we can’t control every element of an audition, and we can’t guarantee acceptance or any particular result.

See the full Audition Prep page →

📝Agreements
Photography & Media
  • Students may appear in studio photos and videos used for promotional purposes across online platforms and print media. By enrolling, families agree to this usage. Families agree by default to this policy, but we understand and are willing to accommodate any explicit request for privacy for minors. If you’d like to request privacy, please submit the request in writing to the studio.
Communication
  • For the safety, transparency, and convenience of all parties, we require that communication between instructors and student families be strictly limited to in-person discussions, emails to/from our official studio email address (musicjunkiestudios@gmail.com), and direct messaging in our MakeMusic Studio client system. Contacting or sharing the personal email addresses or phone numbers of our instructors is strictly prohibited. This measure is in place to protect the privacy and maintain the professional boundaries of our staff. All communication should adhere to the methods outlined in the official communication policy for everyone’s safety and consistency.
  • Additionally, instructors are not permitted to alter the schedules of their students. Therefore, all communication concerning scheduling changes or inquiries should be directed to the front desk. This ensures that scheduling remains centralized and consistent for all parties.
Safety
  • It is OK to drop students off, but Music Junkie Studios does not accept responsibility for students outside of their lesson/activity time. Friends or siblings of enrolled children should never be dropped off at the studio unattended. Emergency situations should be communicated to MJS promptly so arrangements can be made for appropriate child supervision.
  • To maintain a healthy environment, students should refrain from attending lessons if they exhibit any symptoms of contagious illness, such as fever, vomiting, persistent coughing, or other visible symptoms of being unwell. Please notify us as soon as possible if your student is sick.
  • Please disclose any relevant diagnoses that may impact safety or learning. This helps us tailor lessons for each student’s success.
  • We have windows on every door for transparency and safety, and parents are welcome to view the lesson via the camera screen in our lobby (video and audio).
